Fallen oak tree - Hollington Road, Tean, Staffordshire

N&J Tree Services was called out by Amey Highways on 5 July 2026 after a mature oak failed at its base and fell across Hollington Road in Tean, Staffordshire. The tree obstructed the highway and required an urgent response to make the area safe and restore access.

Although the tree had fallen onto the highway, it originated from privately owned land. The work therefore required coordination with the relevant parties, and the estate owner asked for all timber and associated arisings to be retained within their land following clearance.

Delivery

Our team assessed the failed tree, surrounding hazards and the safest method of removal. Site-specific risk assessments and operational paperwork were completed before work began.

Because of the size and weight of the mature oak, mechanical assistance was brought in to support the operation. A machine operator worked alongside the arboricultural team so that large sections of timber could be handled and moved safely, reducing manual handling and improving the efficiency of the clearance.

The tree was progressively dismantled and removed from the highway. Timber, branches and other arisings were then transferred back onto the private land from which the tree had originated, in line with the estate owner's requirements.

Outcome

The fallen oak was removed safely and the carriageway cleared, allowing Hollington Road to return to normal use. The project demonstrates a responsive emergency service combining experienced tree teams, site-specific risk management and specialist machinery to manage a large tree failure efficiently.
